A Mother's Sins (Afterlife) - Character Design

“Hear ye, hear ye!”
Let me indroduce our beloved Alessia Turrano! But before that, I'll introduce you to the game I worked on last year.

A Mother's Sins is a game prototype created on Unreal 4.26. I worked on this project during my last year of studies at Brassart, in a studio called Afterlife, that we created with five others students. We worked on this project over a year.

A Mother's Sins is an action-adventure, Hack'n'Slash game, in a dark fantasy world inspired by Italian Renaissance. You'll incarnate Alessia, a power hungry dutchess, who lost everything, but above all her son. You'll have to face Alessia's psychic hell and discover what happened to her.

I show you in this part the work I've done on the main character, during the pre-production.

I had the opportunity to work with three Game Designers (Nicolas Baronnet, Pierrick Pépin and Michel Picq), and two other Game Artists (Camille Cuby and Lily (Gabriel) Morel).

This model of Alessia is the final 3D model we've created. I worked on her concept. Lily (Gabriel) Morel did the 3D  model and the rig I've later used to create all of her animations. And the textures was done by Camille Cuby.

The first visual that was created for the creation of Alessia was first made on zbrush, I sculpted her head, then I worked later on her concept on Photoshop.

Here is Alessia's final concept. Her appearance was inspired by duchesses existing at the time of the renaissance in her clothing, jewelry and armor pieces. The boar on her right pauldron represents her family, the Turranos.

Alessia's main weapon is a ceremonial axe that she picked up during her journey, to be able to defend herself. This axe represents her fury and wrath against her enemies.

Alessia also use a ceremonial shield, which is the coat of arms of her family. This shields represents the protection she wants for her son.

I've created this to represent Alessia's enemies inside the environment of our game, which is her castle.
